Day 3 - Ruby Falls

Day 3 of Spring Break was filled with many fun, amazing activities.  We had a blast and just loved this day.
We started at Ruby Falls for a tour of the cave and waterfall at 9:50 a.m.

We took an elevator ride down 260 feet to the caves.  Then we had a cave tour for about an hour.
We walked through narrow passages, learned about the different formations and watched a video about Leo Lambert who discovered the caves and waterfalls in 1928.  He named the falls after his wife Ruby.  Leo was 5' 2".   Leo and his team drilled through limestone and removed a lot of rocks to create a path to the waterfall.  His initial trip into the caves was 17 hours round trip.  For a long time he had an 18 inch crawl space!

Stalagmites and stalactites made some cool formations...like this cactus and candle...
Sofie and Noah held hands for some of it.  So cute.

I love the bacon one!
I liked the lights too.
And here's Ruby Falls.  It's 145 ft heigh and 1120 feet underground!  Amazing.  We had 5 minutes to take pictures and then it was time to go.

We enjoyed exploring and learning about these caves.  Oh, it takes 100 years or so for a stalactite to from and grow 1/4 - 1 inch!  So these caves have definitely been here for a long time.

We found an Elephant's Foot for Isak.  :)

We ended up at the gift shop and Noah found a raccoon for his souvenir.
Then we took some pictures outside.

We climbed the stairs to the lookout tower on top of the gift shop.

Then we got in the car and drove 15 minutes to Rock City for our next adventure!
