Welcome to our family Isak Nels and Kira Daisy!
Isak Nels was born November 11, 2012 at 11:04 p.m. He weighed 6 lbs. 4 oz.and was 19.5 inches long.
Kira Daisy was born November 11, 2012 at 11:06 p.m. She weighed 5 lbs 6 oz. and was 18 inches long.
Ordinary, routine, scheduled, planned-these were words I thought I would be using to describe my delivery. But Isak and Kira had plans of their own. I was originally scheduled for November 12, 2012 to deliver the babies via c-section (Kira was breach) at 12 p.m. Instead, Isak was born November 11, 2012 at 11:04 p.m. and Kira was born November 11, 2012 at 11:06 p.m.
Sunday, the 11th, I kept having lower abdominal cramping/pain in the morning and early afternoon. I tried to ignore it, but I decided to call the nurse just in case. She said to get some rest and see if that would help ease the pain. She said she would call me later that evening to check on me.
This is the picture we took right before I called the nurse. My last prego picture at home. Look at that belly. haha.
Around 8 p.m. I found myself in the hospital.
I did not want to go! My parents and sister had just arrived around 5 p.m. and all I wanted to do was talk and play games with them. Nels's parents were also here. We ate taco soup for dinner and everyone was teasing me that I hadn't packed my hospital bag. I didn't see why I needed to since my appointment wasn't until the next day. But they insisted. So I packed my bags in 10 minutes, and just as I finished I started having some serious contractions. I was so upset and kept saying, "This is not how I planned it!" haha. Nels gave me the sweetest priesthood blessing to help me calm down. Then the on-call nurse called back to check on me. I explained that I was having contractions about 10 minutes apart. She said to go to the hospital to get monitored. I was not happy about that because I thought for sure they would send me back home. All I could think was how embarrassing it would be to drag all our family to the hospital just to be told to go home and wait for the appointed time. But instead, within minutes of being monitored the nurse said, "you'll be delivering in 30 minutes" Ah!!! I couldn't believe it!
I was prepped for surgery. I remember I was freezing and my whole body shook. The rooms were cold! I received a spinal tap to numb the lower half of my body. Once my prep was done and the sheet was pulled up - so I didn't see anything-Nels came in dressed in a white outfit with blue cap and a mask on. Dr. Martin performed the surgery. I felt pressure and tugging but no pain. I got so nauseous though that I threw up the taco soup! Yuck! And before I knew it, I was hearing Isak cry for the first time and then 2 minutes later little Kira. My heart melted when I heard their cries. It all became so real to me in that moment. These little babies that I carried inside of me for 9 months were real!
Then I saw my husband holding two beautiful babies in his arms. Kira is on the left in the picture and Isak is on the right.

I got to hold them while they stitched me up. :) Isak is the one crying. :)

Oh my little babies! Isak is 1 pound heavier than Kira. I like what one nurse said, "He stole all the groceries!"

Kira had a hard time keeping her temperature so they put her in an incubator for the day. Isak had a little jaundice, but other than that our babies were healthy. Skin time with the twins to help with breastfeeding. Yes, I did breastfeed, but only in the hospital and 1 day at home when my milk came in. We're really good bottle feeders now.
Everyone doted on the babies. It was so fun to have two for people to hold. :)

My good friend Alyssa took these wonderful pictures at the hospital. Thank you Alyssa; they are priceless.

Before I knew it, we were being sent home with our bundles of joy. Aren't their going home outfits adorable?! They are soooo tiny.
