Day 2 with Lorilee

The next day, Lorilee and I went to the Botanical Gardens.  What a beautiful place?  We took our time and just walked, explored and talked.  I loved it.  Here's a few pictures:

Me and my belly...I'm about 26 weeks here.
Roses...

These little flowers just looked cheerful.
Creative planting.  They had plants growing out of sinks, tubs, lamps, etc.  See me and Lorilee in the mirror?

There was a cute Candy Plant Land.  Lorilee and I decided to play.  We put on colorful aprons, grabbed the game pieces, and off we went.
Lorilee in her apron ready to go.

It was quite the adventure from trampolines to rope swings to climbing walls.
And here's the winner's chair!
Throughout the garden they had unique swings.  Here's one of them.
We loved this hammock swing.
This statue reminded me of the new Timothy Green movie, although I've only seen the previews.
There were lots of little houses to explore:

This was the big birdhouse.
Then we fed the fish.  There were some people there before us that were feeding the fish....looks kind of gross/scary.
I LOVE this red bridge.

Thanks for the visit and fun time Lorilee!!

Day 1 with Lorilee

In the 4th grade, a fun girl named Lorilee and I became best of friends.  We have so many great memories together.  So when she said she was coming for a quick visit, I was thrilled!  Her husband Danny had some meeings here in Memphis, so she decided to come along.  It was soooo good to see her and we had a fantastic time.  We even did things that I haven't done yet in Memphis.

Our first stop was Slave Haven.  This house and the owners helped slaves to freedom.  The tour was very informative.  We learned a lot about the history of slavery in the south.  I enjoyed learning about how quilts were used as codes to warn slaves if a place was safe or not.

Here's a few pictures:
Danny and Lorilee in front of the house.  No photography was allowed inside the home.
Me and Lorilee in front of the house.
On a  little swing:
After Slave Haven, we went to Beale Street.  Nels met up with us there and we enjoyed live music and excellent food at BB King's Club.  It was a great place.  We went around 6 so it wasn't too crazy yet. :)
Lorilee, BB King and Me.

The band played music by Elvis, Johnny Cash and other classics.  It was so enjoyable.
After dinner we walked to the Peabody hotel and up to the roof for a beautiful sunset.
Lorilee and Danny...cute couple, eh?!

We took a walk along the Mississippi River after the sun was down.  The Memphis bridge was all lit up and it was a gorgeous night.  That was the end of the first day....

Day with Larysa

My dear friend Larysa moved. :(  I was sad to see her leave.
We spent some time together on a Saturday before she left.  We had a great time!  I'm grateful for her friendship.  She's amazing.

So here's a few pictures of our adventure:
We went to the Farmer's Market at Shelby Farms.  I love the fresh produce and flowers.
Here's the big red barn:

Larysa and I both got some cheerful sunflowers.  The cute fellow is Zac, Larysa's son.  He was sooooo good.
I got some tomatoes and Larysa got some peaches.
My arm picture....and then off to lunch.
Mosa's Asian Bistro.  I love this place.  I get the same thing every time, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and it's delicious every time!
Larysa and her food.
Doesn't it just look yummy?

We needed a little something sweet after lunch.  Muddy's Bake Shop provided our sweet tooth with the BEST cupcakes.
Muddy's is a cute little bakery.  See how fun and festive they are....you can see Larysa in line.  The line was always to the door the whole time we were there.   Busy place, but fast.
Zac chillin'.  He's so adorable.
The tables are each uniquely painted.
Our cupcakes...chocolate with chocolate frosting and if I remember right, Larysa got chocolate with Peanut Butter frosting.

Check out the Whisk, pink bling.
Lots of cupcakes, and some sold out!

It was a great day...aw memories.

Uncle Lou's

The first week in August, Nels and I headed to Uncle Lou's Famous Fried Chicken.  This Memphis restaurant was featured on the show Diner's, Drive-In's and Dives.  So we were pretty excited to try it.

Here's a few pictures of our adventure:
The menu:  You could even order a 1 1/2 lbs Ultimate Monster Cheeseburger for only $8.48!  That's a lot of meat!
The cup says "Sweet Spicy Love."  That's their signature style of chicken.
I tried fried okra for the first time.  It doesn't have much flavor...I like fried dill pickles better.  I ordered the chicken and Nels got a Honey Dipped Smoke Sausage Sandwich.
I'm trying to imitate Nels's Dinosaur face...I need to keep working on that!

I'm about 23 weeks along here.
Verdict:  We both enjoyed the chicken.  But we like Gus's Fried Chicken better.  I have to say the service was excellent.  The people working there are Super Sweet Southerners!
