Sofie and Noah love Mickey and Minnie Mouse. One day at lunch they put their slippers on the table so they could eat lunch with them. Haha. Three year olds.
The kids get a treat after Isak and Kira get home from school. I bought a big bag of dum dum suckers. They love to pick one out.
We started a new thing...each kid gets a turn to make a dessert. Kira went first. She looked through the recipe book and chose this banana pudding cake. Nels ended up being the one to help her make it. It turned out to be a fun way for them to connect.
And their efforts were delicious!
A few pics of Sofie at preschool that her teacher sent to me from recess time.
I love seeing how happy she is playing at school!
I went to the library without kids to pick up some books. Since the kids weren't with me I thought I didn't need to take a bag...but it turns out I did. Here's my stack of books. A mixture of kid books and some for me.
Just some down time...I thought they looked cute.
Here's Sofie, all dressed up to get Isak and Kira from the bus. She's standing on the water cover hole. It's so fun. Haha.
Nels is quite the pancake maker. He was so nice and made everyone's initials...if you rearrange the letters their initials spell SKIN. haha.
Just playing in a pile of blankets.
Water color painting time. Kira did a beautiful job.
And Sofie did too!Isak preferred coloring with markers.
Finished products.
I was craving chocolate cake...topped with whipped cream and strawberries. So good. I ate way too much.
Play dough flowers.
This is Noah's store...we bought play food from him and paid with pretend money that went into the cash register. He loved all of the attention and had a great time.My friend did this for her kids and I thought it was hilarious. So I did it for ours. "Ah," I said, "Our toilet turned into a monster!" The kids just stared at it. Then Kira said "Oh, I get it" and then explained it to Sofie and Noah. Oh well, I laughed.
School at home includes an online meeting with their teacher every day at 9 a.m.
Working on math...
Showing their colored tongues.
Playing Clue!Just some three year olds reading in their tent. 💕
I try to read to Sofie and Noah for school.
Play time. Isak is working on his erector set and Kira and Sofie are doing legos.
We made shape art work. Noah loves to glue and that's all. Sofie loves it all and Kira is her helper. Noah and his train. He can play with it for a long time.
He really likes these pajamas and asked for a picture...
We played with K'nex. I helped Kira build this horse.
Isak built this blimp. Both are pretty cool!
Just a selfie with my girls.
Kira wasn't feeling well. She loves to sleep with her horses. Finally wore out Noah. He fell asleep during the day with his teddy.
Isak got to pick the next treat to make. He chose s'mores bars. Oh, my! They were delicious.
I experimented in the kitchen and made these orange rolls. They were okay.
Nels decided to read the Chronicles of Narnia to the older kids. Starting with book one...The Magician's Nephew. I loved seeing them snuggling and listening...or sleeping like Kira...
Our shamrock rice crispy treat.Nels is such a good dad. He helps Noah build his tracks. And then spends some time playing it with him. Noah beams with the attention.
I saw a friend do this activity with her kids. It looked simple and fun. So I brought out the marshmallows and toothpicks. The kids did have fun with it!
They also liked eating their work!
March is over! What a crazy month. So many changes. The last day of school was March 13. I remember we quickly stocked up on food because we did not know what the future would look like with schools closing and the quarantine in place. I'm so thankful for the food and toilet paper we had at home and that we could stay put for a bit. Thankfully, Nels is able to work from home too. At first, I was checking the Illinois updates for people who were diagnosed with the virus and how many had died. The numbers kept growing at a rapid rate and there was nothing I could do about it. So I stopped looking. That helped my mind so much. It helped me to cope better with the situation and I was able to focus on the four kids better.
We slowly transitioned into doing school at home. I realized that this would take a lot more of my time and attention than I thought. Some days are good and others aren't.
We had spring break. But it was very similar to the other days. We didn't do anything special. Just got out when the weather was nice. Nels did some awesome dance parties with the kids. I loved watching him dance and introduce the kids to different music. And watched a movie, made some treats. That's about it. Then March was over...don't get too excited. We stayed home in April too. :) "Safe at home not stuck at home" is one of my favorite quarantine quotes.
