My Mom and Dad came to visit!! They arrived around 9 p.m. on Oct 10th and stayed for five wonderful days! I thoroughly enjoyed their visit. I was mentally in a good space, so that helped a lot. :) I wasn't stressed out and just enjoyed our time and adventures together.
So our first adventure began on October 11th. Nels took the day off and we headed to Chicago around 9:30 a.m. We had pretty good traffic, but of course once we hit the city, it's crazy! We got a little turned around trying to find parking. But we eventually found a place. It was $38/day and they parked the car for us which saved us some time.
Here's the first picture in the parking garage and ready to go!
There's Nels with the baby twins.
We walked my parents to Sears Tower and our little family went up the street to the money museum - Federal Reserve Bank. It was a small museum, but we took our time and enjoyed it. There was a box in the floor filled with coins and then glass on top. The kids were nervous about standing on it, but then realized it was pretty cool.
Isak's face is on the $100 bill!
Now Kira...
And Nels. :)
Sofie couldn't reach...
There was a station to learn about counterfeit money, one to make your own currency, a short video and other little kid friendly stations.
And this was cool...$1 million dollars is under this glass case.
And a picture with our plaid kids. :)
My parents loved going up the elevator of the Sears Tower and standing on the glass ledge. They got some cute pics.
Timing was great. We finished at about the same time. Then we walked around to find food for lunch. We ended up at Pot Belly's. Here's Sofie and Noah just being two year olds.
Then we walked over to Michigan Ave so my parents could catch the boat for the architecture tour. Here's what our crew looked like walking on the sidewalks. We saw some cool things along the way.
After we took some pics, Kira asked if she could run under it. So Kira and I took a quick run under the red claw art. :)
We saw this awesome and huge mosaic tile art.
Then we realized we needed to hustle. Luckily Sofie was in the mood to run. And she actually pulled me along as we ran to Michigan Ave. We made it just in time for their 4 pm tour. While they did their 75 minute tour, our little family walked up Michigan Ave. Our first stop was the Candy Store. We picked out four suckers and the kids were thrilled.
Even Noah was happy. Can't you tell? :)
Then we continued our walk. Nels saw Tiffany's and said, "I've never been in Tiffany's. Let's go." So in we went with four kids, four suckers and two very nervous parents. The kids were great. Sparkly jewels! Nice people talked to us and didn't kick us out. haha. Sofie dropped her sucker - probably the cleanest floor in Chicago! Here's a pic of Isak and Sofie on the stairs.
A display..kind of hard to see...We learned Tiffany is the last name of the Man that is the creator of Tiffany's! Still blows my mind, I always thought it was a woman. haha.
We continued our walk to the historical Water Tower. We went inside for five minutes and looked at the pictures on the wall and the lion fountain head.
Cool doors.
Lion Head Fountain.
A map that shows the Chicago Landmarks.
Just a small interior to walk around. Then we went outside to get some pictures. Kira put her hand on her hip and was ready!
Someone asked if they could take our pic...of course and thank you!
Those suckers lasted and helped our kids be happy. Although they were a bit sticky and I'm glad I had some wipes!
After pictures it was already time to head back and meet up with my parents.
I think my mom and dad enjoyed the tour. They got some great pictures!
I just love Chicago architecture.
My mom took some great pictures! Just look at that view.
I think this one is from the tower.
This one too.
This one is from our walk...
We hung out in the Apple Store for a little bit and recovered from our walk. We also had fun doing an impromptu photo shoot. My mom's phone is so cool. It has a portrait setting that makes the background fuzzy. I like it. Isn't this a great picture of Kira?
And handsome Isak.
Grandma and Isak.
Melts my heart!!! Love these cuties.
My Mom and Dad are always willing to take a kissing picture. :)
There was a huge mirror in the apple store and Sofie just loved it!
This bucket list was in the Sears Tower. My mom took a photo of it. I think we checked a few off the list!
And just as we were leaving, we took a quick picture in front of the Chicago Tribune.
Kira rode in the stroller for a bit and Sofie was getting heavy so my dad kindly carried her for a bit. Sofie loved it!
We drove home and stopped at Portillo's drive thru for some Chicago hot dogs, fries with cheese sauce and chocolate cake. Mmmmm. We ate it at home and put the kids to bed!
Great day!!
